This Maritime Monday we look back to our education programs. Normally at this time in the year, we are surrounded by Gloucester Public School students and local field trip visitors, all taking part in our experiential education programming. Back in 2015, we had the Waring School students film their week-long activities and they created this video from their experience. What better way to salute the initiative of our students and the experience that they get at Maritime Gloucester than to show it in their own words.

There are few things that celebrate summer and Gloucester's heritage like the Gloucester Schooner Festival. In 2012, Maritime Gloucester became the home to the Festival, previously run by the Chamber of Commerce. The Festival is a celebration of our schooner fishing fleet and a continuation of the International Fisherman's Race started in 1920. For those doing the math, this year is the 100th Anniversary of the race, and we hope to celebrate that legacy this Labor Day weekend, if the COVID-19 conditions will allow. Safety of the crowds will take first place in this year's race, but with good planning and preparation, we hope to offer a Schooner Festival worthy of this notable year.
Many great videos and presentations have been made for this visual event. Watching them on Youtube is always fun. For this Throwback Thursday, we share Jay Albert's Cape Ann Images slideshow from 2009. A great teaser for this upcoming year.
Editor's Note: Due to some editing issues, we will be skipping Front Line Friday for this week. Front Line Friday will return next week with another member spotlight! Thank you for watching!

An interview with Dr. Heidi Tarr Henson, a Maritime Gloucester member and gig rower since 2008, and Secretariat HR Officer at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Dr. Henson discusses her many duties in today's COVID pandemic world, particularly those relating to the Department of Unemployment Insurance. This is a great look at the many layers our State is working through to reopen and protect the economic health of its citizens.
