Announcing new leadership at Maritime Gloucester
March 3, 2026

Last Wednesday, Maritime Gloucester's Board of Directors unanimously chose Jack Clarke - who until recently served as Gloucester's interim Chief Administrative Officer - to be the new Board Chair.
Clarke's first order of business was to appoint Dan Albani as the new Executive Director.
“Maritime Gloucester undertook an exhaustive search for the position and Dan Albani easily came out on top,” said Clarke. “Dan knows Gloucester, knows the waterfront, understands how non-profits work, and will be a great addition to the region’s maritime community,” continued Clarke.
Dan brings a background in marine science, maritime operations, and nonprofit leadership that aligns closely with Maritime Gloucester's mission of inspiring discovery, embracing history, exploring science, and living stewardship.
A Danvers native, Dan returns to the North Shore with a career built on the water and in the nonprofit world. A University of Rhode Island graduate with degrees in Ocean Engineering and Oceanography, he also holds an MBA and a U.S. Coast Guard 100-Ton Captain's license. Earlier in his career, he worked at Ocean Alliance here in Gloucester, securing grants to restore the historic Tarr & Wonson Paint Factory for ocean research and STEM education.

He went on to serve as Director of Blake Island Operations for Argosy Cruises in Seattle, overseeing a waterfront Native American cultural heritage destination accessible only by boat, before leading operations for WeTrainWashington, a nonprofit focused on workforce development. Most recently, he has been working at Boston Ship Repair, deepening his financial and operational expertise in the maritime industry.
Dan's first day of work will be March 16. Interim Executive Director Sara Remsen will continue part-time through mid-April to support the transition. We look forward to welcoming Dan to our working waterfront.
