Group size
Our programs can accommodate group sizes up to 75 students on-shore or 30 students aboard the Schooner Ardelle. For groups over 75 students, we are happy to collaborate with other local museums and attractions to provide joint programming.
Timing
Field trip programming is available to school groups, homeschool, afterschool, and enrichment programs during weekday hours from 8:30am-5:00pm.
Program Pricing
All programs include free admission to our galleries and exhibits. There is no charge for chaperones or tour leaders.
Shore based programs: (Fee ranges apply to size of group and type of activities. Minimum trip fees noted below)
A single 50-min program: $8-$12 per student based on program choice (minimum fee $145) max group size = 25
Two 50-min programs: $10-$14 per student based on program choice (minimum fee $185) max group size = 50
Three 50-min programs: $12-$16 per student based on program choice (minimum fee $225) max group size = 75
For groups larger than 75, we may be able to split into groups of 20 and cycling through 4 or 5 learning stations
Boat Based Programs:
2-hour cruise $600 for groups up to 25 students with multiple learning stations programs.
Combination Programs: We can develop a trip combining on-shore activities with schooner based activities.
For very large groups (75+ students), boat & multiple shore based programs can be combined to cycle all students through all activities. Describe your requirements and we can create a custom quote.
Sample Field Trip Program
9:15am Arrive at Maritime Gloucester, introduction to the site
9:30-10:20am Station 1: Plankton Lab (observe and identify organisms that form the base of the marine food web in our digital microscope lab)
10:25-11:15am Station 2: Invasive Crab Lab (learn about invasive species, and compare and contrast a native crab species with an invasive one)
11:15-11:45am Lunch on the Pier
11:50-12:40pm Station 3: Schooner Ardelle Sail (learn what it takes to operate a schooner and see Gloucester Harbor from a fisherman’s point of view)
12:45pm Departure from Maritime Gloucester
