About the event
Join us on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 6PM in the upstairs gallery at Maritime Gloucester for an evening with master shipwright and 11th generation Essex, MA shipbuilder Harold Burnham.
From 2012 to the present, nearly all of Harold's vessels have been hauled on the Burnham Brothers Marine Railway — the oldest continuously operated marine railway in Gloucester. Through years of hands-on experience, Harold has gained invaluable knowledge about blocking and hauling vessels on this historic railway. In his own inimitable style, he'll share the "ups and downs" of working this remarkable piece of living maritime history — what goes right, what can go wrong, and everything in between.
Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear firsthand stories from one of New England's most accomplished traditional shipbuilders, right on the very site where this storied railway has operated for over 175 years.
