On The Pier

Heritage Days 2021-46 (1).jpg

The Massachusetts Oyster Project is an organization dedicated to the restoration of water cleansing oysters and native shellfish to the state’s marine estuaries.

Maritime Gloucester supports Massachusetts Oyster Project in their mission to strengthen our coastal environment. Their work restoring native shellfish populations to our beaches and coastal estuaries is an important step toward living stewardship. Through oyster cultivation, shell recycling, education and advocacy we can improve water quality, increase the diversity of sea life and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Join us for a sail on an authentic, traditionally built, Gloucester Schooner out of Gloucester’s historic working waterfront. Our vessels, the Schooners Ardelle & Isabella were both designed and built, and are owned and captained by NEA National Heritage Fellow, Master Shipwright Harold Burnham, and his family. During our trips our friendly and knowledgeable crew delight in sharing our region’s rich fishing, shipbuilding and maritime heritage with our passengers.

Public Sails

Maritime Heritage Charters offers 2-hour public sails aboard the Schooner Ardelle around scenic Gloucester Harbor daily throughout our sailing season from May-October (Columbus Day Weekend). All sail tickets include admission to Maritime Gloucester.

Private Charters

A private charter is a perfect way to gather together for company outings, family events, weddings, birthdays, and memorial services. Whatever occasion you wish to celebrate, we can help you arrange for a memorable sail. We offer affordable options for both small and large groups.

Special Events

Maritime Heritage Charters offers a wide variety of special event sails throughout the season. Join us for an all day Circumnavigation Sail around Cape Ann, a Schooner Challenge with other local vessels, or one of our music or history sails, there is something for every one!

Gloucester Adventure, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit maritime historic preservation and educational organization. We are the stewards of the 1926 dory-fishing Schooner Adventure. Our mission began with the restoration and preservation in perpetuity of the National Historic Landmark Schooner Adventure, one of the last surviving Grand Banks dory-fishing schooners. She is a national treasure that sails as an icon of the American fisheries and as a floating classroom celebrating maritime history. The schooner is operated at sea along the New England coast, as a living monument to Massachusetts’ fishing heritage. As such Schooner Adventure is important not only to Gloucester, but also to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and all America. Sail with us!
