About the event
Join us for our 2021 Spring Working Skills Series, as we offer 3 video discussions on practical nautical skills. In the first event, Planking - From Rabbet to Sheer, we focus on the traditional skillsets that were used to plank a boat. Carolyn Corbin will take the participants on a video discussion of the basics of planking, including terms, methods, and reasons for different types of planking. After the video, Carolyn will stick around for a Q&A and discussion on what we learned!
About the Presenter:
Carolyn Corbin is an itinerant shipwright who operates from the Chesapeake to Maine. She began her study of traditional wooden boat construction on the MARYLAND DOVE at Historic St Mary's City in 2011, and added to it through work on several east coast tall ships, including Gloucester's ADVENTURE, as well as apprentice work under a Maine based shipwright and time at the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding in Port Townsend Washington. She is currently working with the Acorn to Arabella project in central Massachusetts. Among her other many varied interests are sailing, art, and dogsledding.
This program is supported by a grant from the Bridge Street Fund, a special initiative of Mass Humanities.
