About the event
Salt marshes provide critical habitats for breeding and foraging birds, fish, and other species, and are one of the most productive ecosystems on Earth. They occupy the space between the ocean and land, serving as a buffer, filtering contaminants from runoff, absorbing flood water, and reducing storm damage from wave energy and erosion. In 2018, the Salt Marsh Working Group (SMWG) was formed to provide a forum for scientists and land managers to coordinate understanding around priority research needs and to collaborate on preserving this natural resource. This spring, the SMWG will be releasing a document prioritizing regional efforts around three driving research questions that have the potential to increase salt marsh resilience along New England coasts
