ADVENTURE
Homeport: Gloucester, MA

Built in 1926, the Adventure is one of the last of the Gloucester fishing schooners, known as "Gloucestermen," and famous throughout the world. The Adventure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, designated a National Historic Landmark, and an Official Project of Save America's Treasures.

AMERICAN EAGLE
Homeport: Rockland, ME

The American Eagle was built in Gloucester in 1930 as an auxiliaryfishing schooner. She is recognized as a National Historic Landmark.

BLUENOSE II
Homeport: Lunenburg, NS, Canada

A proud symbol of Nova Scotia’s maritime heritage, Bluenose II is a faithful replica of the legendary 1921 racing schooner Bluenose. Built in Lunenburg in 1963, she serves today as Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador—preserving the craftsmanship, spirit, and stories of Atlantic Canada’s seafaring past. At 143 feet on deck and 161 feet overall, Bluenose II is one of the largest working wooden schooners in the world. Visitors can tour the deck or join a harbor cruise during the summer season to experience traditional sailing firsthand.

DENIS SULLIVAN

World Ocean School exists to provide students of all backgrounds with immersive opportunities to learn to care for themselves, their crew, and their ship, becoming vessels of change in the world they inherit. Providing programs aboard the schooner Denis Sullivan for middle school through college aged students. Programs focus on studies in marine ecology, maritime history, stewardship, seamanship, ethical decision- making, and community service. The 137-foot Denis Sullivan was launched in 2000 in Milwaukee, WI after an extensive community effort and thousands of volunteer hours. She is a replica of a 19th century Great Lakes schooner and purpose built to serve as a sail training platform.

TABOR BOY
Homeport: Marion, MA

Built in 1914 in the Netherlands, Tabor Boy is a 115-foot gaff-rigged schooner serving as the sail training vessel for Tabor Academy. Operated year-round by student crews under professional supervision, the vessel functions as a floating classroom, offering hands-on education in seamanship, navigation, and marine science. Donated to the school in 1954, Tabor Boy remains one of the only U.S. Coast Guard–inspected school vessels of its kind in the Northeast. It continues to sail extensively throughout New England and beyond, carrying forward a tradition of experiential learning and maritime leadership.

ALERT
Homeport: Bailey Island, ME

GSF Location: Maritime Gloucester
ALERT was built in 1992 by Paul Rollins in York, Maine. ALERT's original name was TALL COTTON. In 2006 Roger Woodman, a fisherman, restored the boat to long line for fish off shore and renamed her ALERT. In January 2013 Perry and Bethany bought ALERT and in September 2013 completed the boats testing and documenting with the United States Coast Guard to bring her into the passenger trade. Today they are hosting public sails and Private charters on ALERT Daily.

ARDELLE
Homeport: Gloucester, MA

GSF Location: Maritime Gloucester Pier
The Flagship of Maritime Gloucester, the Ardelle is a pinky schooner built by master shipbuilder, Harold Burnham. Ardelle works as a public attraction and charter boat, providing daily sailing opportunities in Gloucester Harbor. She serves as an educational platform for all of Maritime Gloucester's programing including the Maritime Apprenticeship Program.

FAME
Homeport: Salem, MA

The original FAME was a Chebacco fishing schooner that was reborn as a privateer when war broke out in 1812. She was arguably the first American privateer to bring home a prize and made 20 more captures before her demise in the Bay of Fundy in 1814. The current FAME was built by Harold Burnham and is owned and operated by Mike Rutstein as a charter vessel and attraction in Salem Harbor. Note that charters on FAME sail from and return to Salem.

HINDU

After an extensive, lovingly completed restoration, the Schooner Hindu is back on the water and ready to sail again. As she embarks on her first season back in Key West, this historic 1925 gaff-rigged schooner returns stronger than ever, honoring nearly a century of maritime tradition. Step aboard and experience the beauty of her craftsmanship, the spirit of her history, and the joy of sailing on one of the most beloved wooden schooners in America. Join us this season and be part of the next chapter in the Hindu’s incredible journey.

MALABAR X
Homeport: Key West FL, and Salem, MA

Malabar X (ten) was built at Hodgons yard in East Boothbay Maine in 1930. Designed by John Alden as the last and largest schooner of his famed Malabar series. Malabar X was Alden’s personal yacht which he raced in the 1930 and 1932 Newport to Bermuda race. Winning her class in 1930 and winning overall in 1932. Newly returned to the American flag, Malabar X is the epitome of the Gatsby era in yachting. Elegantly restored and available for charter for the first time since 2007, Malabar X is ready to enlighten all who step foot onboard! Operated in tandem with the Schooner When And If at Sunset Sail Salem in the summers and Sunset Sail Key West in the winters.

SPIRIT
Homeport: Newport, RI

SPIRIT was designed for R.W. Everest and is a sister ship to John Alden’s MALABAR IV which won the Bermuda Race in 1923. Built at Hodgon Brothers in Boothbay Harbor in 1934, her hull is double planked with cedar and mahogany and her spars are sitka spruce. The Schooner is now owned by Lars Forsberg who acquired her in October 1987 as the third owner/custodian. She was formerly named DISCOVERY III and VELA. Since taking ownership of SPIRIT Mr.Forsberg has undertaken three major restorations with the goal of keeping her as original as possible. In the summer of 2023 and 2024 SPIRIT returned to the racing scene and participated in the CYOA Classic Yachts Challenge Series. She raced in 19 events and completed 35 races, she achieved many race wins and frequented the podium, including a class win at the Eggemoggin reach regatta and an overall victory in the Opera House Cup!

THOMAS E. LANNON

Tom and Kay Ellis had the schooner Thomas E. Lannon built in Essex in1997 by Harold Burnham. She is taken from the design of a 1903 Gloucester fishing schooner. She sails as good as she looks, she sails daily from May to October from the Gloucester House Restaurant.
Small Schooners

BALD EAGLE
Homeport: Gloucester, MA

GSF Location: Private Mooring
This beautiful Sam Crocker-designed schooner was built in 1955 by Bud McIntosh in Eliot, ME, and rebuilt by Harold Burnham in 2002 & 2017. This classic workboat-inspired design is all about comfort, simplicity, and seaworthiness. She is owned by Schooner Festival committee member Brett Ramsey and his wife Ellen.

EILEEN MARIE
Homeport: Gloucester, MA

GSF Location: Gloucester Harbor Mooring
Eileen Marie was designed by Sam Crocker as Dorothy. She was built by Lewis Norris in Florida in 1984 of Oak beams and Cypress planks when the Crocker family gave $100 plans out in Wooden Boat Magazine to rejuvenate the wooden boat community. She has undergone a major rebuild at The Ways in Palm Beach Shores in 2012 and then sailed offshore to Boston, where she is kept at the Savin Hill Yacht Club and sailed to the Cape Cod and Maine in the Summers.

ELIZABETH
Homeport: Bristol, RI

Elizabeth is a 42' steel Tom Colvin schooner built in Ohio. She was built for fishing and cargo originally, then charter. Elizabeth was rescued by Jason Rose who conducted massive refit and restoration. Jason generosly transferred ownership to Carissa Spatcher and Mike Araujo and family. She currently calls Bristol Rhode Island home.

GREEN DRAGON
Homeport: Gloucester, MA
Length on Deck: 33 ft
GSF Location: Private Dock
Designed by Scotty Gannett and built by Chester Spear, both of Scituate, and launched in 1951 as the Brenda Lee, she was renamed to Green Dragon as homage to the tavern known as the "Headquarters of the Revolution." Privately owned she is a staple of the Gloucester Schooner Festival and a much-loved participant.

HUMBLE
Homeport: Nahant, MA

Humble is a Marconi rigged schooner built in 1978. This will be her first time participating in the Gloucester Schooner Festival with her owner Jack Minton

ISABELLA
Homeport: Gloucester, MA
Length on Deck: 38 ft
GSF Location: Maritime Gloucester Pier
Commissioned in 2005 and built by Harold Burnham she is the newest in the Maritime Heritage Charters fleet. Harold based her on versions of schooners he had seen in Fitz Henry Lane's paintings. Our Historian Justin thinks she looks like a halibut schooner.

LEWIS H. STORY
Homeport: Essex, MA

GSF Location: Maritime Gloucester Pier
Built in 1998 by Harold Burnham, this recreation of the historic Chebacco boat design was named for Essex's foremost historian. Today, it is the flagship of the Essex Historical Society and Shipbuilding Museum. It is an educational platform for their students and serves as the Museum's roving ambassador.

RENEGADE
Homeport: Branford, CT

GSF Location: Gloucester Harbor Mooring
Built in Sunnybrook, Nova Scotia in 1972, Renegade has been in Branford, Connecticut since 2005 when owner David Coller brought her down from New Brunswick where she had been docked on the St John's River. Since that time she has been as far north as Newfoundland and south as far as the Chesapeake and has been a regular participant in the Gloucester schooner festival since 2006.

STROMBUS
Homeport: Gloucester, MA

Built in 1934, one of 8 Auxiliary Schooners of her type designed and built by David Hillyard, Sussex, England. Strombus spent many years in the Chesapeake before coming to Gloucester. She was rebuilt by Geoff Deckebach and Mandy Davis over 10 years and relaunched in 2017

SYCAMORE
Homeport: Wiscassett, ME
Length on Deck: 36 ft
GSF Location: Gloucester Harbor Mooring
The Sycamore is a steel, two -masted schooner build by Fred Bowers over 16 years. It is a steel representation of a pinky schooner, one of two vessel designs originally used in Maine's fisheries in the early 19th century. She is named after sycamore trees that surrounded the builder's home growing up. They are a source of fond memories and good feelings.
